Croissant Sandwich

I just realized nothing "Halloween" like stuff in here :( 

When I'm busy one thing, I cannot think about the other thing! 

Today is halloween, and CC wanted to be Merida from Brave, and that involved

curling hair to paint spraying her hair. Whew! JJ was a kitty cat, nice and easy. 

And they have class parties with treats and games. I was thinking 

"I have to pack something light, and something not sugary" 

Anyway, simple ham and cheese sandwich and egg salad sandwich. 

Can you tell I was in a hurry? The picture isn't even focus :p

Heart Sandwich

CC wanted to buy lunch today, so I got lazy. I made this for JJ but super simple. 

A heart sandwich with strawberry jam, fresh strawberries, ham and cheese in 

flower shapes. It was still very dark because of the storm. So the picture was 

taken under the light :) 

Witch Bento

It is Monday again! Happy Monday, everyone! 

I couldn't think of anything, then found left over pot stickers. 

That was perfect little something for lunch.

Then I decided to make a witch. Does it look like one? 

I hope so. They are simple rice balls. 

California Roll Bento

I'm hoping I won't have to make dinner today. It's Saturday. I just don't feel like it. 

I feel pretty much like sushi. We have a really good sushi restaurant in our neighborhood. 

Although if we go, girls will race to eat tuna, and sometimes I don't get to eat any! 

I'm getting better at rolling sushi. This is fun once you know hot to do it :)

Today's lunch is spaghetti with pumpkin bread. I made eyes with a brownie.

Hi there! I totally forgot to post this lunch, and almost time to pick up kids!!! 

Today's lunch is regular sandwich with grapes and carrots, added some hotdog flowers :)

Snowman Curry Bento

I'm not wishing for snow. I'm actually enjoying warm weather last couple of days. 

It's curry today, so this is easy solution :) 

For JJ, I made mashed potato ghost again... since she couldn't eat yesterday. 

As I predicted, she said "mommy, I couldn't eat, because you forgot to put folk in it!" 

I made sure everything is packed today. 

Owl, Bat and Ghost Bento

As I post this picture, I realized that I forgot to put folks for kids. 

Hope they can find one at the cafeteria... otherwise, they bring this back! Oh no! 

In case you are wondering what they are: from left top, rice balls, bottom left, 

ghost shaped mashed potato, right bottom, meatballs.. trying to look like a bat. 

Elephant Sandwich

Here is today's lunch and snack. I used new elephant cookie cutter for a decoration. 

I've been trying to make heart shaped sandwich, but haven't succeeded. 

Maybe I put too much jam inside which is difficult to roll. and bread might be too thick

for the purpose. Anyway, I'm happy that turn out simple, but healthy looking lunch :) 

Penguin Bento 2

Penguin rice ball has salmon flakes inside :) Some vegetables, fruits, and 

chicken nugets. 

Ninja Cat Bento

Today's lunch was Ninja Cat Onigiri Bento. Simply made rice balls in kitty cat shape, 

made face and body with seaweed. It looks like cat in costume :) 

Mac and Cheese Sandwich with Halloween Cookie

I take picture by the window normally. This morning, it was so dark! 

The thing is the sun rise is getting later. Plus it was a bit raining. 

So you may wonder what is that black round thing .. that's a halloween cookie, 

kind of like Oreo Cookie. And one side of cherry is raisins. 

Halloween Hot Dog

It is getting close to Halloween! Girls are excited, and finally both costumes are ready! Whew!

I just realized that I forgot to include a folk for this lunch, hope she could find it at the 

cafeteria. Inside this is hot dogs and mac and cheese, grapes and apple.

Today's lunch is taquitos and dessert sandwich. 

My Lunch 6

This is my lunch today. I love salmon flakes. It is easy, and yummy. 

My new favorite is Maitake mushroom I could buy at Whole Foods. 

Shumai Bento

I've been liking this new lunch boxes. They are shallow, has divider, and sealed tightly. 

The amount is probably perfect for JJ, too. She normally eats all her lunch. 

Today is shumai bento. The other one with vegetable is for snack. I had her bring 

some chips the other day, and kindergarten teacher reminded me that's not acceptable 

snack for kindergartener. Oh well. Sometimes, I don't have enough time to pack lunch

and snack and a bag of chips helps me so much! Today, I made some effort :) 

I was having trouble packing, and realized that I used top one and bottom one opposite! 

See, it's too loose with rice balls, and too tight the other. It settled okay at the end :) 

My Lunch 5

I'm not very good at making sushi roll, I don't think. It is difficult to roll tight. 

When it is loose, it's difficult to eat because all fall apart too quickly. 

But I found this crab meat at Japanese market and had to try it. 

Avocado was nice and fresh, so it is actually turn out great! We had salmon for 

dinner. So I put small slice aside and made it fried salmon for lunch. 

Norimaki Bento

JJ just love sushi roll. When I made some for dinner, she didn't even ask 

what was inside and ate it all! So I packed some for lunch. To go with it, 

I made fried salmon. It turn out pretty good :)

Sandwich again

Sandwich again. 

Last night, both kids were sick and I wasn't sure if they are able to go to school. 

Then forgot to plan about lunch. Plus, I didn't want them to feel sick eating too heavy lunch. 

I think simple lunch like this is okay sometimes, right? 

This is for daddy.

I know this is not sandwich. This is Soba. This is for CC.

When kids are sick and don't have much appetite, 

Soba noodle works great. It fills and light at the same time. Often, Japanese kids or 

half Japanese kids like mine get picked on such lunch. But my daughter is very unique 

and confident. She doesn't mind showing off this "difference" in her, and proud. 

One time in the kindergarten, she was writing everyone's name in Japanese, getting 

other kids interested in different language. I am very proud of her :)

Bunny and Chick Onigiri Bento

Today's lunch is this. I couldn't make up my mind what kind of rice balls I would make. 

And also I realized that I often having trouble making two of the same ones. 

So here are bunny and chick. It look more like penguin if I put more seaweed. 

Anyway, chicken nuggets to go with it. Edamame is such a convenient item. 

It is green, and kids love it! One thing JJ commented this morning was 

"mom, that's cute, but when I open the lunch box, things are all over the place!" 

Well, that's the challenge :) 

I didn't mean to make it look mad.. just the angle.. 

Kitty Cat Wrap Sandwich

I used obento gadget today, these are kitty cat and doggy wrap. 

Inside is rolled up sandwich. 

You can buy this kind of gadget these days, but back in my childhood, there was 

no such things! But I remember my mom used color plastic wrap to do the same 

thing. And when the lunch was sandwich, somehow it was special :) 

Halloween Ghost Bento

It is getting close to Halloween. I made two ghost bento today.

Heart Sandwich

I tried to make heart shaped sandwich, it didn't work very good :( 

Maybe the bread I used was too thick, or I put too much jam. 

Anyway, I was tired this morning...

Although, it was a quite volume that won't work for losing weight!

Cucumber Roll

I wasn't going to make lunch today, 

because CC was buying lunch and JJ decided to bring lunchin the last minutes, 

and I packed her chili and chips. Nothing to photograph. 

Then I went to Whole Foods for grocery shopping, found MAITAKE, kind of 

mushroom I like. I bought a pack and sauté with soy sauce, Mirin, and a bit of sugar. 

Now, I wanted to pack in the box! I made cucumber roll just the sake of Japanese "ish" lunch. 

I guess I can bring this for dinner tonight for JJ's violin lesson :) 

Salmon Cheese Sandwich

I often have to make different things for CC and JJ. Today is the case. 

For CC I made quesadillas. For JJ it is salmon and cream cheese sandwich. 

I like tuna, too. But this is a little alternatives. Just mix can of salmon with 

cream cheese. We often use it as dip for chips at the party.

Today's my lunch will be garlic and hot pepper pasta with fruits! 

Sandwich and Hotdog

This is our basic sandwich, egg salad sandwich with strawberry jam roll ups. 

Hot dogs on a screw is easy to eat at lunch time.

My Lunch 2

This was my lunch today. I found myself having fun putting this together for myself. 

Otherwise, it's always busy and sometimes I forget to eat. 

Today I had this sausage with blue cheese I tasted at Whole Foods. 

It was yummy, but actually too rich, next time I pack more vegetables and less meat. 

Smiley Faces Onigiri Bento

This is our typical Onigiri (rice ball) Bento. 

I had to go to the grocery store today, and I didn't have main dish to put in the lunch. 

What we have here is ham, and fruits. Just adding fun, I made apple ladybug :)

Oh, one quick tip: soak apple in salt water for 5 minutes or so before packing. 

It won't change into yucky brown! 

Teddy Bear Curry

I did pretty good today. I had this plan to make teddy bear curry, and curry was already made. 

It was easy just to pack lunch like this. CC loves curry, so I just made sure she could 

break teddy bear to eat! (sometimes they feel bad to eat if there is a face) 

It is a good start of the week! 

My Lunch

I always wanted this slim shaped obento box, and now I got it! 

This is forth obento I'm making today, but I don't care. I wanted to try it! 

What surprised me was this is a lot to eat! 

I'm eating lunch alone, but this make is a little fun for me :)

Mac and Cheese Kinder Bento

Because JJ is getting big, sometimes I feel she can handle herself well, forgetting she's only 5. 

One of the things is obento. Even opening lunch box is challenge sometimes. 

For that reason, I made a simple and easy access kinder lunch. 

Steak Bento for Daddy

I had this beef marinated over the weekend, thinking for dinner, turn out to be going out to eat. 

So I cooked it up for obento. Well, he'll eat it for dinner, so that's okay, right?
